'A Series of Building and Structures'
built for the Tall Trees and Boardwalk RR.
As with many 'reality based' layouts the structures I wanted to include,
which are unique to the Santa Cruz area, are not 'available'.
So... I tried my hand at building buildings!
 
 
Disclaimer:
They were build for my route, to my 'specifications'.
 
I built them with the idea of 'Misleading the Eye' rather than creating
the super, high quality, high detail models that 'rivet counters' treasure.
I did not want to spend the Quantity of time,
 required to achieve that Quality of model.
 
  I consider them to be equivalent to the painted backdrops
  used in stage productions or movie sets, no more, no less.
Look too close and the 'Trompe L'Oeil' ceases to be effective.
 
However, with all that said, and even with their limitations,
they are some pretty interesting little buildings.
 
Though most are specific to Santa Cruz most could be 'transplanted' anywhere!
 
After a recent stay in Indiana I began the creation of the 'Muncie Series';
Buildings of the type found in any city East of the Rockies.
 Lots of brick and architectural detail. (added Feb 2005)

La Bahia
One of the most Historic buildings

 Built in the 1920's, as an
apartment house and
vacation motel.
Served as convalescent
 hospital during WWII.
Apartments again after WWII and
now, soon to be 'gentrified' into a
modern motel and condo complex. 
The exterior will be preserved
but the interiors... will be distroyed!

Santa Cruz Train Depot
This is a reconstruction of the
original depot. For years it
suffered the humiliation of
being used as a Railroad
 theme Restaurant. After being
 abandon in the late 1980's
 it finally became the victim
 of a fire set by homeless people
trying to stay warm
 one cold winter night.
It was a beautiful old building,
I haven't done it justice!
